The doctrine of His Sonship did not in the smallest degree, of course, set aside the Messiahship. He had no confidence in the Lord for himself not a particle; for just as those who have confidence in the Lord have not an atom in man, his sole hope of blessing for his soul lay in the influence of another man, not in Christ's grace.
