Mathematics is currently taught through the use of extreme detail, a bottom-up approach which loses students’ interest. I believe in believing in every student, that each one has the potential to understand and do the math presented to him or her. Teaching Philosophy. The study of mathematics promotes clear thinking, and mathematics learning can be made more accessible to students of all levels by teaching it in an intuitive and real way. My Philosopy of Mathematics Education Teaching. If mathematics is regarded as a science, then the philosophy of mathematics can be regarded as a branch of the philosophy of science, next to disciplines such as the philosophy of physics and the philosophy of biology. However, some students believe that they are not mathematically gifted; therefore incapable of learning mathematics. Personal Philosophy of Teaching Mathematics I believe that the most important aspect to teaching math is to communicate the beauty and the simplicity of the subject while valuing the individual student’s learning speed. However, because of its subject matter, the philosophy of mathematics occupies a special place in the philosophy of science. I believe the teacher is responsible for making the students feel comfortable to ask questions in class and seek help when needed. Students enter the classroom with various learning styles, family backgrounds, attitudes, and conceptions. Teaching mathematics is a challenging, yet rewarding endeavor. My Teaching Philosophy for Secondary Education Mathematics I base my teaching philosophy on the foundation that every student is capable of learning mathematics.
